SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee announced he will be retiring from politics at the end of this term.
In a statement to the media, he said he would have completed four terms by then.
Associate Professor Ho said it has been a very fulfilling and satisfying time for him, both on the ground in Nee Soon East as well as in the many offices he has held.
He said he informed the Prime Minister that he would like to retire from politics some time last year.
And he said he is glad that the Prime Minister has agreed.
While he has no intentions to become a missionary after leaving politics, Associate Professor Ho said he would certainly be more active in Church as an elder.
He does not intend to return to teach full-time at the NUS Law Faculty, but hope to do some part-time teaching there.
Associate Professor Ho said he would also continue to support important causes like promoting sports, nurturing voluntarism and helping youths to realise their potential, all of which he said he had espoused consistently all these 20 years in public service.
