<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I AM puzzled by Wednesday's report, 'Fees at 3 ERP gantries higher from Monday'. The Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) near Alexandra exit between 8am and 8.30am will be twice as expensive for cars.
I travel the AYE every day during this period at speeds of 80kmh to 90kmh, keeping within the speed limit. Traffic is smooth-flowing. From Buona Vista exit to Lower Delta Road, it takes me about eight minutes.
The rationale for the increase as stated by Land Transport Authority (LTA) after its review was that speeds were 'consistently below what it deems optimal levels'. What are the parameters used in this review? Are we to expect to go above the speed limit before road conditions are considered ideal? Is this increase justifiable or is LTA trying to push commuters towards public transport?
