民陣今日發起元旦遊行,警方下午五時半,以有人在遊行中途破壞滙豐銀行分行,下令民陣解散遊行,並須於六時十五分之前疏散所有遊行市民,民陣對此表示強烈譴責。
民陣發表聲明指出,警方於今日 5 時半,強行終止了民陣的遊行及集會,民陣對此予以強烈譴責!民陣亦嚴正聲明,疏散群眾是按不反對通知書要求迫於無奈的做法,民陣絕對不同意警方腰斬的決定,警方相關言論是充滿謊言、誤導及分化香港人。
警察於盧押道的拘捕行動引發警民對峙,當時場面漸變溫和,防暴警察及後亦準備撤退,卻隨即向人群投擲催淚彈,激化矛盾。警方亦同時威逼遊行腰斬,更要求民陣 30 分鐘內疏散迫爆港島的數十萬市民,大批防暴警察更在地鐵站及各疏散路線截查、挑釁市民,成圍捕之勢。
二零二零年一月一日,新一年第一個合法遊行,警方卻藉詞腰斬,充份顯示政府「旨暴製亂」,無意回應市民訴求,更嚴重侵犯市民參與和平集會的權利。
民陣警告香港政府,尊重浩蕩民意,落實五大訴求,缺一不可,否則香港人絕對不會放棄,社會亦因為警暴不會回復平靜。
民權觀察亦發表聲明指出,市民參與和平遊行集會及示威的權利受《公民權利及政治權利國際公約》和《基本法》所保障。根據國際人權法及終審法院的案例,警方有正面責任協助遊行集會和平及有序地進行。
民權觀察指出,聯合國及歐洲人權法庭都曾指出,在一個整體和平的遊行集會,如有一小撮人在遊行集會中作出不和平或暴力的行為,警方有責任制止有關行為,但不應以此作為解散整個和平集會的原因。任何干預集會自由的措施必須具有合法目的及合乎比例。
民權觀察認為警方今日終止遊行集會的決定是不合法及侵犯市民參與和平遊行集會、表達意見的權利。警方限制市民參與和平遊行集會,只會進一步激化社會衝突。

一批市民晚上在銅鑼灣一帶聚集,警方在銅鑼灣崇光百貨外施放催淚彈,晚上8時許,警方在花旗銀行外制服數十名市民,要求他們坐在地上,雙手放頭。大批記者拍攝期間,有警員要求他們離開,並築起防線。
記者其後退至對面的希慎廣場,有警員再要求記者離開,亦舉起藍旗警告若不離開會使用武力驅散,引起在場記者不滿。
有防暴警員向記者方向施放胡椒噴劑,之後警員容許記者繼續留在希慎廣場位置。

有示威者晚上在德輔道中馬路上以竹枝、雨傘等雜物設置路障,並有路障起火。晚上7時許,警方在場同時舉起黑旗及橙旗,水炮車其後在場向路上燃燒的雜物路障發射水柱,裝甲車亦撞開路障,而防暴警則繼續在場手持長盾戒備及布防。其後,部份示威者轉到遮打道及干諾中聚集,並再次以雜物堵路。水炮車和裝甲車則向遮打道推進,防暴警則要求在場人士立即離開。
晚上7時半後,警方在終審法院對開制服並帶走1人。

Police water monitor disperses demonstrators
