Hong Kong media said that as China becomes a global leader in the field of artificial intelligence, the demand for domestic innovative products is rising.
According to Hong Kong's "South China Morning Post" website reported on April 20, especially China's advanced monitoring system, this product is increasingly welcomed by overseas customers. The latest example is the Malaysian police started using face recognition cameras from China to identify criminal suspects.
According to the report, the auxiliary police team under the Royal Malaysian Police has equipped police officers with a number of cameras designed by Chinese artificial intelligence start-ups and equipped with advanced face recognition. Police officers can use it as long as they wear it. This system allows the police officer to quickly compare and match the faces captured by the camera with the images stored in the police database.
This surveillance camera can also work at night, but for now, it lacks the ability to identify at night, only to allow police officers to review the video footage captured by the camera after the incident to identify the suspect.
Rosmadi Ben Gazzali, chief executive officer of the Auxiliary Police Force, said: “This is an important step in the application of artificial intelligence to the public safety field to strengthen social security. In the future, we also intend to add the functionality of a wearable camera system. To expand the application of real-time face recognition and instant warning features."
According to reports, there are many well-known artificial intelligence companies in China, including Shang Tang Technology, Contempt Technology (also known as Face++) and Yitu Technology. According to CB Ventures, a US market research company, in 2017, of the 15.2 billion U.S. (96.9 billion yuan) funds raised by global artificial intelligence startups, China accounted for 48%, or even more than 38% of U.S. companies.
The report said that the world’s most populous country is also preparing to establish a nationwide face recognition system that is connected to a camera that can identify someone from China’s 1.3 billion people in less than 3 seconds.
The report said that in China, face recognition software has been widely used in security and surveillance. The bank uses this face recognition software to verify ATM transactions, and border surveillance cameras use it to match and contrast the travelers' heads in the national database to identify smugglers and illegal immigrants.
In addition, China's tourism hot spots (including ports) and public places that require high safety standards also use related products to strengthen law and order. According to the company, in the first three months of cooperation with the Shanghai Metro, it helped identify 567 people who violated the subway regulations. (Yang Xuelei)
