昨（3日）年廿九晚上，有人在上水北區體育館外違例燃放煙花！香港01記者今早前往北區運動場外的停車場了解情況。燃點位置的煙花盒已被警員檢走，而地面遺有少許已燃燒的煙花物料。新年將至，不少新界地區均有人違例燃放煙花，昨晚事件又有不少上水居民目睹，並指煙花歷時約一分鐘，更傳出多下巨響，「嘭、嘭、嘭、響咗幾十下！」
居民目睹煙花匯演 歷時約一分鐘
昨晚（3日）北區運動場外的「民間」煙花匯演，有人於停車場外非法燃燒煙花，北區不少居民目睹。街坊歐先生指，昨晚約9時許，他於家中目睹有人燃放煙花近一分鐘，「幾響架！」歐續指，每年接近新年便有人放煙花，惟每次位置均不同，「通常擺低煙花就走，邊會咁傻仲企係到！」但他認為，新年前後放煙花都屬於一種氣氛。
歷年有民間煙花 街坊：踏正十二點放！
「嘭、嘭、嘭、響左十幾下！」，居於翠麗花園街坊廖婆婆指，昨晚在家中聽見煙花巨響，「最後一下最大聲，好似啲長炮咁！」。她接示懷疑該批煙花由內地帶入，因香港不能放煙花，又表示知法犯法「緊係唔好啦。」而鍾太表示，煙花年年都放，因為住在附近，昨晚在家中亦看到煙花，放了接近一分鐘，「好大聲」。她又指，歷年都有民間煙花，而且會連放多天，「踏正十二點放，好似維港個啲咁！」她表不擔心會有危險、惟不認同有人「知法犯法」。
年初至今有14宗 非法藏有煙花爆竹案
就連串的非法燃放煙花案件，警方表示，由今年一月至今，警方在全港多個地點展開打擊非法藏有煙花爆竹行動。行動至今，警方在14宗案件中共檢獲約1,300公斤懷疑煙花和爆竹，並拘捕六名男子及三名女子，他們年齡介乎19歲至65歳，罪名為涉嫌「非法藏有或燃放煙花爆竹」。
警方的發言人重申，警方非常重視相關罪行，因為非法燃放煙花爆竹不但會觸犯法例，更會危害自己及他人的安全，以及造成財物損失。警方呼籲市民切勿以身試法。警方將會在農曆新年期間繼續相關執法行動。
危險物品條例：燃燒炮仗 最高判入獄三個月
根據香港現場法例，未經批准放煙花屬違法行為。而根據《危險物品條例》，任何人製造、貯存、管有、出售任何煙花炮仗，一經定罪最高刑罰為罰款25,000港元及監禁6個月。而市民燃燒炮仗，最高可判罰500元及入獄三個月。

A total of about 1,300 kilograms of suspected fireworks and firecrackers have been seized and 14 men and three women, aged between 19 and 65, were arrested in 14 cases. The offence was alleged to be "illegal possession or discharge of fireworks and firecrackers". .
A Police spokesman reiterated that the police attach great importance to the relevant offences. The illegal discharge of fireworks and firecrackers will not only violate the law, but also endanger the safety of themselves and others and cause property damage. Dangerous Goods Ordinance: Burning Cannons Up to three months in jail
According to the on-site laws of Hong Kong, it is an offence to release fireworks without approval. Under the Dangerous Goods Ordinance, any person who manufactures, stores, possesses or sells any fireworks can be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $25,000 and imprisonment for six months. The public can burn up to 500 yuan and imprisonment for up to three months.
