Hong Kong bans flights from India, Pakistan and the Philippines over mutant COVID-19 strain
19 Apr 2021 08:59AM
Asia
HONG KONG: Hong Kong will suspend flights from India, Pakistan and the Philippines for two weeks from Tuesday (Apr 20), after the N501Y mutant COVID-19 strain was detected in the Asian financial hub for the first time, authorities said in a statement late on Sunday.

The three countries would be classified as "extremely high risk" after there had been multiple imported cases carrying the strain into Hong Kong in the past 14 days, the government said.

The city reported 30 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, 29 of which were imported, marking the highest daily toll since Mar 15. Hong Kong has recorded more than 11,600 cases in total and 209 deaths.

Commentary: COVID-19 variants are concerning but shouldn’t affect confidence in vaccines
Hong Kong authorities have been urging residents to get vaccinated for coronavirus with only around 9 per cent of Hong Kong's 7.5 million residents vaccinated so far.

The government last week widened the city's vaccine scheme to include those aged between 16 to 29 years old for the first time, as they aim to boost lacklustre demand for inoculations amongst residents.

Airlines impacted by Hong Kong's ban on travellers from India, Pakistan and the Philippines include carriers such as Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, Vistara and Cebu Pacific.

HK is obviously a very racist country. Countries in Europe have far higher infection and death rates yet HK singles out dark skinned countries that pose a far lower risk.

Look at the fatality rates of the strains in India, Pakistan and Philippines and compare them with white countries and tell me with a straight face which "strain" is more lethal.

This is why statistics are quite meaningless. With 1.2Bn population, the death per million will always stay low. If there are only 25 people in the country then the number could hit the roof.

Come on,everyone know the statistics are "fake" in India like fake certificates, fake resumes, even the PM also had a fake degree.555

Take the Philippine population then... 110 million.

Simple logic...why take the risks ? Just ban those fucking Ah Nehs from coming in....and then why we still need to wear masks ?

Loong wants to suck Modi's dick and collect money from quarantine staycations.
Singapore love talents and money.
How much government income if 500,000 come in pay levy taxes and join the workforce?

The focus is on Indian death rate's upwards spike. And there's a double mutated strain out there. Is your brain able to process information from more than one source?

Viral mutations are the norm not the exception. However in the context of Covid they are used to perpetrate the fear and anxiety in order to keep the narrative going so that the media can continue to milk the virus for all it is worth.

First it was the UK strain, then the South African strain, the California strain etc. We were told that the SA strain was a killer that would bring the world to its knees. Guess what! nothing happened. In fact the SA strain turned out to be so benign that cases and deaths have plunged in SA far more quickly than in other parts of the world.

Here's the cases per million for you to see for yourself.

Here's what a so called "expert" said about the SA strain when it appeared.

A virologist talks about the dangers of the South African strain of coronavirus • U.S. news

2-3 minutes

The South African strain of coronavirus infection is more dangerous than the British strain because it acquires mutations to re-infect people.
“The South African one, unlike the British one, acquired several more mutations that helped it evade monoclonal antibodies,” he noted. The specialist explained that monoclonal antibodies are protective factors isolated from humans, which scientists now often use in research. They are sold for use in laboratories for scientific activities. These are neutralizing antibodies that prevent SARS-CoV-2 from entering the cell.
According to Volchkov, these antibodies do not work on the South African strain. “That is, the virus mutating in this direction begins to overcome adaptive immunity. And these changes will give an opportunity to infect those who have already been infected because they have antibodies in their bodies to the previous, not yet mutated, strain,” he said.
The expert said scientists in Johannesburg said the virus began behaving this way because of one of the treatments for COVID-19 – transfusions of donor plasma from over-infected people. “People haven’t developed their own antibodies yet, but they’re already being injected with others. When T-cell immunity has not yet developed, T cells and NK cells have not yet come into play,” Volchkov emphasized. He added that this allows the virus to easily evade the immune response.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor reported that most test systems used in Russia are capable of detecting the South African strain of the coronavirus. At present, according to the agency, there is no scientific evidence that the South African strain is less sensitive to neutralizing antibodies. There is also no evidence that it can be reinfected.
A new mutation of the virus was found in South Africa in mid-December 2020. This variation has been named 501.V2. South Africa’s health minister stressed that the second wave of coronavirus in the country is likely due to this particular mutation of the disease. Such a strain is different from the coronavirus mutation found in the UK and subsequently in other countries.

Here is the result of this "dangerous" SA strain vs other strains.

A bit of a dead squib I would say.

Time to invent a new strain.

By chance I clicked on "Argentina" vs "India" and this is what I saw!!!!!

Argentina's cases are skyrocketing as we speak at more than 2x the rate of India.

Why are the alarm bells not ringing with regards to Argentina's situation? Less newsworthy?

Again you are ignoring the big picture. The virus strain mutations are local and immunity levels differ geographically.

An ah neh can take a dip in the Ganges and then go home to have dinner with his family. A sinkie would probably die of toxic shock 10 minutes after Ganges shit water touches his mouth.

I'm one of the few that is actually looking at the big picture.

The virus will keep on mutating and will continue to spread regardless of what the human species does. Trying to stop the spread and control mutations is like attempting to hold back the tide. It just does not work.

The only solution is effective vaccines and if everyone can accept the fact that Covid, like the flu, will take the lives of many people every year just like the flu does then we can move on. Otherwise we're just stuck in limbo which does absolutely nothing positive for anyone but results in huge downsides in other areas of life that are equally important.

Chinese virus now bevones south african, uk, indian etc. Chinese trying to divert disease away from its source.

You're not making any sense. If the virus keeps mutating like pokemon how are vaccines ever going to be effective?

The vaccines need to be reformulated annually. The flu vaccine goes through exactly the same process every year.
