Here come the busing bride and groom

GEORGE TOWN: Instead of arriving in a decorated car, newly-weds Mohamed Khairudin Mohamed and his bride Norhaini Ahmad Ali made a grand appearance for their wedding reception – in a gaily-decorated Rapid Penang bus.

The couple, dressed in north Indian attire a la Bollywood stars, was the centre of attention when the bus decked with ribbons and teddy bears stopped at the Bayan Baru Community Hall here.

Mohamed Khairudin, 23, who works as a regulator with Rapid Penang, was dressed in a gold-and-red kurta get-up, while his 22-year-old bride from Sungai Dua wore a glittering red-and-green lengha and bangles.

The words “Selamat Pengantin Baru” flashed on the electronic display of the bus.

Mohamed Khairudin, from Bayan Lepas, took the ride to promote the company and encourage the use of public transport.
