Helping hand for grieving family
GEORGE TOWN: A family who had difficulty bringing back the body of their daughter who died in Ukraine can now heave a sigh of relief. The MIC is willing to pay to bring home the body of M. Gowrii, 29.
Her father, I. Mutuerulan, 64, said his daughter had just completed her studies and was scheduled to fly home on Feb 23. “However, while trying to get her exit permit, she collapsed at the immigration office in Ukraine on Feb 22 and slipped into a coma.

“She regained consciousness the next morning and called to inform me that she was in hospital. She also complained about a lingering pain in her back.
“That same evening, we found out that she had slipped into coma again,” he said.
Gowrii died on Feb 28. Mutuerulan added the family was still waiting for the autopsy report to find out the cause of death.
Her mother, M. Pushpa, 54, said the family had been looking forward to the return of their only daughter. “We were shocked when we found out about this terrible news,” she said, fighting back tears.
MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said one of his staff members had alerted him to the problem facing the family.
“Since the transportation fee to fly the deceased back home is high, MIC will bear all the costs. The family can then hold a proper funeral ceremony for her,” he said.
The body is expected back in the country on Wednesday.
