Dear GMS,

Frankly I dont see any use for petition as long as LKY still alive.

During TLK reign as NTUC-CEO, his ambition was to be in the Minister portfolio after doing so much crap in the insurance industry. (Anyone in the insurance industry know him well)

TLK comment is either biased or deliberate to show LKY that how much TKL is on his side.

LKY is not a stupid old man, he knows where is the danger if he take in TKL into his Minister team.

Not until LKY decide how to deal with the next vacancy, i dont think people voices have any impact to LKY decision.

TKL may have to keep look forward settling down for his remaining old age.

Well, we can either wait for the perfect ideological candidate that we can agree with him with, or we can do something now, and realise that in politics, seldom are stuff black and white and that many are often in shades of grey.

Because waiting will only extend the status quo, and will allow LKY to select another candidate- Nathan probably won't wanna do a third term, considering his well advanced age; he's even older than LKY- that will allow LKY to have absolute control.

If we think LKY will just guai-guai select a candidate that will agree with us then we are mistaken. If you think he will get a pragmatic candidate who will be flexible, then you are also mistaken. If you think that he will appoint someone who thinks and works like him, then this time you're right.

Thus we cannot let LKY do what he wants. TKL may be the only one qualified to run so far, and he's our best hope. As long as some of us establish contact with him and maintain a friendship, and know him, I don't see why should we not support him. Don't let ideology distract you from doing what's right.

While members of the "Inner Circle" and foreigners are reaping awesome benefits. Is this what we are risking and sacrificing our lives for? Do you still call this a nation?

Tan Kin Lian eyes elected presidency
This is the headline of an article in the Sunday Times.
The front page has the following message: "Im game to be elected president or member of parliament if people wants me" Tan Kin Lian now opens up on his political ambition.
My "political ambition" has been summarised in this posting in my blog on 2 November 2008:

It is also reflected in the article written by Nur Dianah Suhaimi. It reflects my views quite fairly. The headline is an exaggeration and gives a distorted angle.
My friend said that the article may backfire on me. My supporters may not be able to get 100,000 signatures. Why not ask for 50,000?
I told my friend, "It is not my interest or ambition to stand for election. If I do not get 100,000 signatures, I have the excuse to opt out - that this is a bad idea." I am willing to leave this to the voice of the people.

Bo ba kay? I'll sign the petition, but i really don't think this is possible, to get 100,000. I can't help but agree most of the ppl that will tell me - if afraid to lose face, then don't contest.

Like I said, TKL is in social affairs and in politics, and in those two, things are never black and white. There will never be a perfect candidate, nor one who will agree with you totally in ideology. Most of the time, most candidates in politics occupy the political centre, because Singapore's still a mainly centre-right country. Therefore, as long as the politicians you prefer agree on the main fundamental issues, its okay if they don't agree with you on everything.

I support Mr. Tan only because he'd be a better choice than any of LKY's choices. I rather have someone who have had a change in heart in recent years, than a complete LKY crony, who's gonna be a younger version of Nathan, regardless of sex, race or religion.
