Wow. it truly is a shadow of its former self.

Back then, I can forget about finding an empty table there at dinner time, hardly hear my wife sitting opposite me asking me what I want to eat and my kid pester us to let him go play with some other kids.

Last week, when I was there, it was so empty, mostly Chinese diners, with a sprinkling of AngMoh.

It used to be that even AngMoh's would bring their families there for a family night out to feast on "cheap" Singapore/Malaysian hawker food.

Ever since the bad publicity they got splashed across the newspaper about getting fined for poor hygiene, I see the hawkers are really very senang, got time to walk around and chit chat and still serve the customers their meals.

Really, sometimes I wonder why the press had to victimise Spencer Village; there are so many health reg violators on the DOCEP webpage that are not even worth a mention.

Maybe it was the sheer popularity of Spencer Village itself that made some parties with deeper pockets and ulterior motives bear the green-eyed monster.

Or maybe the sheer number of health violations within a single establishment was too hard for the press to ignore.

But whatever, the food may not be the best from Singapore, neither is the surroundings anything as swanky as the latest food courts in Singapore, BUT at least....they are all migrants, just like us, they came here to ply their trade, to bring that little more of a piece of home to us migrant, they all have families to feed too, kids to raise, etc. etc. etc.

I'm just worried that if it goes belly-up, not only will they lose, but we all lose a bastion of bringing Asian cuisine to the heartlands of Perth.

So let us all rise to the occasion, help our fellow migrants, and remember the old Singapore adage of grading hawker stalls that Singaporeans swear by:

A = AWFUL!!!
B = BAD!!!
C = Can do lah...
D = Delicious!!!
E = Enticing!!!
F = FABULOUS!!!

SUPPORT SPENCER VILLAGE!!!!!

I visited Spencer village a few Saturdays ago for the Ya Kwang Ponggol noodles. I do not see anything wrong. But Perth has been pretty quiet because people went on vacations/at Subi Oval, etc

I think all Spencer need to do is to have some renovations or/and attend a food safe course. Environmental health will issue a FoodSafe logo. If they are pro-active, the people will return.
