<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to last Friday's letter by Mr Earnest Lau, ''Terrorist' strike - TV announcement was a lapse of judgment'.
I agree with him.
I was watching the National Day Parade with my daughter in the comfort of my home when I heard with disbelief the MediaCorp TV presenter's announcement of a 'terrorist attack'.
The disbelief turned into fear when I realised that MediaCorp, which always tells the truth, was reporting the incident.
The first thing that came to mind was the safety of my family and then the people at the parade where all our leaders were celebrating the nation's birthday.
There is a time and place for creative thinking but this was not it.
After realising it was a simulated terrorist attack, I fumed against the producer for allowing the segment to be screened. When my daughter laughed at me for being frightened, I reminded her of the boy who cried 'wolf'.
The media is a powerful tool and not something to be messed around with.
The dramatic effect was achieved but at what expense?
