Heftier jail term for ex-guard who posted nude photos
KUALA LUMPUR: A former security guard who posted nude photographs of himself on the Internet to promote a pornographic VCD had his six-month jail term increased to a year. Shahrom Mahadi, 45, who went by the name Abang Aim on the Internet, was to have been released from Kajang on Monday. However, the prosecution appealed.
High Court judge Justice Mohd Sofian Abd Razak said it had the moral duty to ensure that society was not influenced by such crime. “Although we sympathise with your circumstances of being released on Monday, the court has to send a clear message to others who wish to be involved in such crimes. “It is disgusting action,” he said.
In allowing the appeal, Justice Mohd Sofian jailed Shahrom a year for each of his six charges, to run concurrently from his date of arrest on June 4. Shahrom, a father of six, was sentenced to six months’ jail on June 4 by the Sessions Court under Section 233(1)(a)(i) of the Com_munications and Multimedia Act for having posted the photographs in 2006.
He was said to have posted nude photographs of himself on some websites to advertise a self-made VCD containing pornographic pictures of him and another man. One showed him having sex with another man. “I beg this court to maintain my previous jail term as I am remorseful of my actions and promise to not repeat the offences,” he said. “I am a first-time offender,” he added.
