Fearing for his life and those of his family members, he has not gone back to Bangladesh since 2010.
Mr A.K.M. Mohsin (above), the editor-in-chief of local Bengali newspaper Banglar Kantha, has received death threats and, in 2010, was even assaulted in a restaurant in Desker Road in Little India.
That is the price the outspoken 48-year-old has to pay for exposing unscrupulous agents and employers – he publishes the names of those who exploit Bangladeshi migrant workers here in his newspaper.
He said: “I wanted to go back to Bangladesh earlier this year, but my friends advised me against it... they said I could get killed if I go back. A hired killer could do the job for as little as 50,000 Taka (S$760). Of course I miss my country. But I fear for my safety,” he said.
