He switched off his next-door neighbour’s electric supply in the morning to simulate a power trip.
When the family’s Indonesian maid came out to check the circuit box, John (not his real name) offered to help reconnect the power.
In the afternoon, he switched off the power supply again when the maid was alone at home.
When she went out to fix the problem, the man pushed her into the flat and raped her twice.
The woman, who was 26 when she was attacked in 2009, was found naked and groaning below the flat.
On Friday, John was sentenced to 27 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane for two counts of rape, and one count each of attempted murder, causing hurt and trespassing.
