A HAWKER was charged in court on Friday with slashing a man's left hand at a food centre in Telok Blangah Drive. Sim Yong Ha, 66, allegedly used a chopper to attack Mr Chan Seng Chai, a retiree in his mid-50s, at Block 79 at about 6.45am on Wednesday. Mr Chan is now in a stable condition in hospital. Sim, who was represented by Mr Yusfiyanto Yatiman, appeared in court with a right bandaged elbow and index finger. A pre-trial conference has been set for Nov 2. His police bail of $5,000 was extended. If convicted, he can be jailed for up to seven years and/or fined.
