<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->WHEN I visited Malabar Mosque in Victoria Street recently to pray, I was shocked to discover a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the women's prayer zone, which is where female devotees change into their prayer attire.
The camera was facing the area where women devotees change or adjust their dressing before and after prayers in accordance with our religion's code of propriety.
Apart from an indistinct sign beneath the camera warning that the CCTV was in operation, there were no prominent signs informing people of its existence.
I am puzzled as to why a CCTV is necessary as there are usually no valuables kept in the prayer zone.
I understand that the mosque is undergoing renovation under the supervision of an official appointed by Muis.
When I told a mosque official about the impropriety of having a CCTV in the women's prayer zone, I received an indifferent reply.
The last time I checked this week, the camera had not been removed.
