Moscow, Oct 15

There were suspicious clouds in a halo sort of a way, over Moscow. Some people thought that the aliens were about to land, others thought that this was some promotional event for a show. Some thought that it was an UFO. But officials placated the residents saying that it was strictly an environmental phenomenon.

Millions of Moscow residents witnessed an ominous ring-shaped cloud appear over Moscow’s western districts, prompting citizens to stop in their tracks to record the phenomenon, save it for eternity and post it all over the internet. The bizarre sight has taken the Internet by storm, and has become an online hit.

However, scientists from the city’s weather forecast service dispelled fears of extra terrestrials landing in Red Square, saying the event was strictly environmental, and it had nothing to do with UFO or aliens.

“It’s a purely optical effect, even if a spectacular one. You can see really strange things if you watch the clouds regularly,” weather officials told Russia’s Vesti 24. “Several air fronts have passed Moscow recently, including an inflow of cold air from the Arctic, and they combined to produce such a phenomenon.”

An official spokesperson for Moscow’s weather department said, “Several fronts have been passing through Moscow recently, there was an intrusion of the Arctic air too, the sun was shining from the west — this is how the effect was produced.”

According to reports, ‘When the cloud initially formed, some UFO enthusiasts declared it to be a “true mystery.” Some even compared it to the giant spaceship hovering over Earth in the movie “Independence Day.” Reality quickly dashed any predictions of an alien invasion. An article from the Daily Mail explains that the “luminous ring-shaped cloud” was simply an optical effect.’
