He knows zilch about it.
He is a natural political animal, brilliant at political maneuvering and outsmarting his political opponents by means fair and foul. Mostly foul.
But for economics, he needed Goh Keng Swee and Prof Albert Winsemius in the early years to helm the transformation of Singapore's economy.
Since they have left the scene, nowadays Lee Kuan Yew and his government depends heavily on McKINSEY, the international management firm that provides research, counselling and advice on international and national politics, economics and social issues.
Half the cabinet ministers can be kicked and replaced by similarly-qualified personnel from Opposition parties and their decision-making would not be very different. Except that Opposition MPs will have more heart and will not adopt all of McKinsey's recommendations in entirety.
McKinsey's role in Singapore government is one of the reasons why Singapore is run like a corporation.
If I can afford McKinsey's, I can also govern Singapore.
