Vivian: MCYS has not been 'stingy'
MINISTER for Community Development, Youth and Sports Vivian Balakrishnan, who is leading the People's Action Party (PAP) team in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, stressed on Monday that the Government is a caring one which listens to the concerns of Singaporeans.
He was responding to criticism from opposition parties that the PAP is a government with 'all brains but no heart'.
Dr Balakrishnan also took pains to explain how his ministry has not been 'stingy' in extending a helping hand to needy citizens.
Of the $1.9 billion allocated to the ministry this year, about $700 to $800 million was spent on baby bonuses and other forms of subsidies.
He also assured residents that the Government is taking steps to tackle pressing concerns among Singaporeans, such as the growing cost of living, rising property prices
