The MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IS: Given the advance warning and time given, what has the govt been doing to prepare the necessary manpower to look at cleaning/disinfecting potential areas of spread?

Some obvious potential areas of spread are:

1. The MRT/SBS hand holds where virus contaminated hands touch and the next passenger grabs onto.

2. The close confined, sardined packed carriages with stale recycled air of public transports (from reducing energy costs). If larger odiferous molecules of Body Odour can linger on long after the passenger has disembarked, surely the 'A' HIN1 virus particles do so too.

3. All the lift buttons on every HDB block and high rise bldg are potential sources of spread.

4. The handrails of escalators in shopping malls, MRT stations etc.

NOW is the time to start having all the cleaning brigades working overtime on all the the above areas before the H1N1 hit Singapore shores, sub-clinical cases may already be present and symptoms have not have manifested yet but infectivity would already be in effect and would spread faster from all the dirty surfaces mentioned if they are not frequently cleaned/disinfected.

S'pore's high density living is going to make the spread even faster like a forest fire than other less populated countries where the population is more spread out.

Once H1N1 hits, the consequences would be;

1. Schools, Childcare centres would have to be closed as classes would be disrupted by quarrantined cases and suspected probable cases. S'pore's overloaded school syllabuses cannot be completed for end of year exams.

2. NS men may have to be confined (quarrantined) in the barracks and training exercises suspended. The defence capability of SG may be compromised.

3. Parents of infected kids may have to go on MC and be quarrantined too, Companies may be operating on skeleton staff levels.
