Guards held after thief dies
KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard allegedly beat to death a thief who tried to steal material from a housing estate under construction. The 24-year-old thief, who suffered serious injuries to his head, hands and body, was found dead by police in a house at Mutiara Bukit Jalil at about 6am on Sunday.
Cheras acting OCPD Supt Abdul Rahim Hamzah Othman said a security guard from the housing estate called the police saying a thief had been caught trying to steal iron rods from the construction site. He said the guard told police he was attacked by two thieves wielding parangs and succeeded in catching one of them. Supt Abul Rahim said police rushed the thief to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
“After treatment and while on the way to the police station, he complained of difficulty in breathing,” he said. Supt Abdul Rahim said the thief was pronounced dead when taken back to the hospital. Police have arrested the 42-year-old guard and another aged 51 to assist in investigations. The two have been remanded until Oct 24.
