Today when i look at my utilities bill, all the charges are listed and also a Water Conservation Tax of 30% water usage. Then follow by Total Charges = $200, GST 7% = $14, Subtotal = $214.

How come GST is impose on the Water Conservation Tax?

Where have you been?, now then you noticed?, like most Singaporeans they never examine their bills...they pay by " cai lu" "wealth road" aka GIRO!.

Anyway, it not too late man!..thanks for waking up!..now go and wake up the rest!.

Have you noticed that the water conservation tax is based on an average in which every average household water usuage is above-average and will end up paying the WC tax plus GST?

It is purposedly calculated that way!

A sample breakdown of the utitiles bill

Water $xx.xx
Water borne fees $x.xx
SANITARY APPLIANCE FEE (wtf, is this?) $x.xx

Refuse $xx.xx
Water conservation Tax $xx.xx

GST 7%

Wake up susie!..wake up!....:(

GST is a tax that helps the rich in a sense. Many people may argue that it's progressive and the burden to the wealthy people is higher because they spend more. In absolute terms, it may be true. However, as a relative measure, the average could be worse of in the long run.

Many people do not need to pay any income tax. Hence, any reduction in the tax rate will not benefit them at all. But they would need to take the burden of higher GST which is present in almost all places. Using simple maths, if his annual expenditure is $10K, a 7% GST means he is contributing $700 to the government coffer every year. Now, you figure if the GST rebate can last for how long.

GST = goods and service tax.

So the Water Conservation Tax is under goods or service?

or they are trying to tell us that taxing us is also giving us a service.

Last week, the Papayas were already toying with the idea of a "electricity conservation tax" after increasing electricity tariff by 22%.

Coffins that are cremated should be entitled to GST refunds, since the goods are not consumed in Singapore.

You mean they have a GST Refund booth, before one crosses the River Styx?, can the boatman, arrange for the refund?

Collect now, tomorrow & day after tomorrow, then, maybe 5 years later, you get a reduction, by then, electricity prices would have risen.

This what they meant by, "no one is left behind"!, translated, ' no one behind is left'...

the only thing that reduced overnight & taking eons to climb back up is; employer's contribution for employee CPF. there was a time when employers had to chip in CPF for employees dollar for dollar. suddenly, reduced from 20% to 13%, and only recently crawled up 1.5%.

employees are still shortchanged of their rightful CPF from the employers. employees now contribute 20% CPF, employers; 14.5%.
