SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the detection of 33 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of noon on Saturday (2 January), taking the country’s total case count to 58,662.
There are no new cases of locally-transmitted infection.
“There are 33 imported cases, who had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore,” said the ministry.

“Among them, six are Singapore permanent residents, and nine are foreign domestic workers.”
The 33 new cases are the highest number of cases in single day since 15 September, when 34 new cases were reported. This is also the most number of new imported cases reported in a day since 28 March, when 42 new imported cases were reported.
This story will be updated later at night.
99% of total cases have recovered
With 10 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Friday, 58,459 cases – or 99.7 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 56 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, and one is in the intensive care unit.
A total of 85 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 29 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
