SINGAPORE: DBS Group, Southeast Asia's largest bank by assets said Tuesday it has appointed veteran banker Piyush Gupta from Citibank as Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Gupta is currently Citi's CEO for South East Asia-Pacific, covering ASEAN, Australia, New Zealand and Guam.
DBS said Mr Gupta's broad-based banking experience, spanning frontline and support functions, positions him well to grow the Singapore lender's franchise.
He has successfully managed businesses in good and challenging times, having previously held leadership positions as country manager of Citi in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Mr Gupta has also served on numerous committees.
These include the Indonesian Government's Debt Restructuring Committee, Foreign Banks' Association in Indonesia and the Boards of AMCHAM Malaysia and Singapore.
DBS chairman Koh Bon Hwee said he is confident that Mr Gupta will help to strengthen the bank's franchise and grow its footprint in Asia.
The lender has been without a CEO since the death of Richard Stanley in April.
Mr Stanley was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukaemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow, in late January this year.
He has died from an infection arising from his leukaemia treatment.
