the jap navy in 1941 with more than 6.9 fleet carriers (15 in total thru' the war), 5 escort carriers, 2 super battleships, a dozen battleships, 18 heavy cruisers, 25 light cruisers, 169 fast destroyers and nearly 200 subs (before battles of coral sea and midway) could easily defeat any british fleet sent over from the atlantic. the distance and resupply lines were just too long for the brits to effectively mount a serious challenge in the pacific. the russians learnt that lesson in the 1st russo-jap war. their entire fleet from the black sea was wiped out by the time they got near port arthur.

You need to revisit history. British was defeated by Nepalese. The Gurkha presence in UK has reminded the British Army of that shameful battle. Singapore independence is a reminder to British why they ran away during Japanese occupation. British has no balls to confront the Asian might of Japanese army. How can you not know that? British also nearly lost to German, America stepped in to help. How can Briton claim credit for it.

the British and Americans should thank China for the eventual defeat of Japan in ww2. the Japanese elite units were already destroyed from 4 years of heavy fighting in China before Pearl Harbor. for example, the Japanese 25th army conquest of Malaya - its main units, the 5th and 18th Divisions in China had stepped down from active fighting to doing security duties. they were resting / idling, training its new recruits before being deployed to fight against USA / UK in the Pacific / SEA. those 2nd rated Japanese units still easily defeated the Ang Mohs.
