PORT DICKSON: A 66-year-old grandmother was robbed of jewellery and cash totalling nearly RM20,000 by two men posing as Tenaga Nasional staff.
The woman was at her double-storey terrace house in Bandar Springhill near here and was babysitting her two-year-old grandchild when the incident happened.
Port Dickson OCPD Supt Baljeet Singh said the two men, who wore blue uniforms, went to the woman’s house at about 10.30am and asked to be allowed in as they wanted to check the meter.
“After looking at the meter in the porch, they told the woman that they needed to check the wiring inside the house. The woman allowed them in thinking that they were Tenaga Nasional employees,” he said.
The moment both the men stepped into the house, they drew out knives and warned the woman to remain silent. They then ransacked the house and escaped with the loot on a motorcycle.
Supt Baljeet said it was the first time that such an incident had been reported here.
He also advised people not to allow strangers into their houses without looking at their authority card or checking with their family members or neighbours first.
Police, he said had also checked with Tenaga Nasional if any of its personnel was assigned to check the meter at the victim’s house but were told that none of its officers were sent there.
Police are on the look-out for the bespectacled suspects believed to be in their late 20s or early 30s.
