..Las Vegas Sands was one of two gaming companies that won the right to build casinos in Singapore after the city state lifted a four-decade ban on them in 2005, to diversify the economy and create jobs.
The company said last week it faces "substantial doubt" about its ability to survive and may be short of cash for US$16 billion of projects in Asia....
As the Chinese proverb goes "bing dong san che fei yi ri zhi han" (It takes more than one cold day for the river to freeze three feet deep).
Surely, there must have been bad financial background that led Las Vegas Sands to the prospect of having default on debt and face bankruptcy.
Who granted them the right? Which million-dollar elite (or elites) that awarded the right to the Sands? What kind of study have they carried out before awarding the right to the Sands? Will they be answerable to their wrong decision? Or they would continue receiving their million-dollar salary plus fat bonuses?
Shame, shame.. Before the Genting was developed, all it took was for one shrewd businessman Lim Goh Tong and few helpers to climb the mountain by foot, armed with parang to ward off possible attacks by wild animals. The shrewd businessman carried out his appreciation of the situation on top of the virgin mountain and decided that it was a viable project to build a casino there. Look at the Genting empire built by him.
Lim Goh Tong is not a university graduate, not a scholar. What he possessed was a shrewd business sense which our highly educated elites do not possess. And yet they are given heavy responsibility to make big business deision..?
Who is to blame for the hopeless mess now?
