Govt bans Shanghai oranges with poisonous colouring
KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will ensure that Shanghai oranges coated with poisonous colouring are not imported into the country.
Members of the public who come across the Shanghai oranges should report the matter to the nearest district health office, a statement from the ministry said Saturday.
Media reports said Shanghai authorities had halted sale of the oranges after consumers came out in rashes when they touched the oranges.
Rule 21 and Rule 225 (2) and (3) of Food Regulation 1985 only approved seven fruit colourings to facilitate grading, it said. "Food grade wax can be used to clean the fruits meant for sale," said the statement."
