SINGAPORE : Former Singaporean Gopalan Nair, who was sentenced to three months' jail on Wednesday, surrendered himself to the High Court on Saturday morning to begin his jail term.
This was confirmed by a Supreme Court spokesman.
Nair had asked to delay his sentence to settle personal affairs.
The 58-year-old lawyer, who is now an American citizen, was found guilty of insulting High Court Judge Belinda Ang, in a blog posting on May 29.
This was in reference to a three-day court hearing, which assessed damages in a defamation suit that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew won against the Singapore Democratic Party, its chief Chee Soon Juan and his sister Chee Siok Chin. - CNA/ms
