THE man who allegedly scribbled words on a display wall outside Parliament House appeared in a district court yesterday to face three charges of vandalism.
Koh Chan Meng, 47, who is jobless, was charged with vandalising the wall twice on Tuesday, and a third time on Wednesday afternoon - when he got caught doing it.
His offences carry mandatory caning upon conviction.
He allegedly wrote on the wall, considered public property, the words 'Hi Harry Lee I love you' on Wednesday.
Harry Lee refers to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.
His alleged writings from the day before were not entirely clear in meaning: 'Go sue me Lee Kuan Yew Go Gavin Son' at about 1.50pm, followed by other graffiti about five hours later.
Koh appeared in the dock in a red T-shirt and light brown trousers. He was handcuffed.
The court granted the prosecution's application for him to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric assessment.
If he is found guilty, he could be fined up to $2,000 or [COLOR=_______]jailed for up to three years[/COLOR], and be given at least three strokes of the cane on each charge. He will be back in court on Jan 29.
