Suffering from slow internet connectivity in China? If so, we’re right there with you.
A recent report by the Broadband Development Alliance gave us a look into Chinese broadband speeds around the Middle Kingdom in the second quarter of this year.
According to Legal Daily, the report crowned China Unicom as having the fastest users’ download speed (24.86 Mb/s) using a 4G network, followed by China Mobile (23.46 Mb/s) and China Telecom (23.23 Mb/s).
China Daily reported that East China boasts the fastest download speeds, clocking in at 24.4 Mb/s on average, while Central China and West China have an average download speed of 23.4 Mb/s and 22.88 Mb/s, respectively. South China’s average internet download speed was not mentioned in the state-owned publication’s article; however, we’re willing to wager it falls short of the other regions. Surprisingly, Shenzhen didn’t even crack the top 10 cities in terms of download speeds.
Shanghai holds a clear lead over all other cities, with a nearly 1.5 Mb/s download speed advantage over the runner-up, Beijing.
Below, we list out the Chinese cities with the fastest download speeds.
1. Shanghai (39.10 Mb/s)
2. Beijing (37.63 Mb/s)
3. Nanjing (37.41 Mb/s)
4. Hangzhou (37.18 Mb/s)
5. Wuhan (37.10 Mb/s)
6. Tianjin (36.95 Mb/s)
7. Fuzhou (36.86 Mb/s)
8. Haikou (36.68 Mb/s)
9. Zhengzhou (36.55 Mb/s)
10. Chengdu (36.35 Mb/s)
The average download rate on China’s 4G networks reached 23.58 Mb/s in the second quarter of 2019, a 16.6% speed increase year-on-year.
It’s worth noting that speeds across the country will be different, depending on your telecom operator, service package and location. You can also imagine that download speed is significantly affected by what handset you’re using.
In short, if you’re looking to improve your current download speed, move to Shanghai and link up with China Unicom. Boom. There you go.
