Glenn Knight's bizarre book

It has been close to a month since the book was released and no one wants to talk about the elephant in the room. Not the press or not even a mention in any blogs / net. Thus this thread.

Sure the press raised the issue about the wrongful prosecution of Tan Koon Swan which the AG responded in detail. That to me is a rather silly as TKS plundered a public listed company and brought the stock market to its knees. In the process, he compromised many people from accountants, stock brokers etc who did his bidding to rig the market. The authorities could have relied on other legislation to nail him if that particular clause did not apply.

I am referring to the events that led him to be charged, and the bizarre 4 consecutive paragraphs where he mentions only one charge about inflated car invoice to obtain a govt loan. He also says that he pleaded guilty and then says that Justice LP Thean made a mistake and he was convicted. He also left other things like his wife's role, his resort business which was the core of his problem and many others. He keeps repeating that he is not corrupt and that it was all a mistake by a judge. He even left out the fines imposed for the other charge, the arrest of his wife and 4 other associates in the resort incident.

Anyway the book is badly written. It a mix of crime cases and his own life.

Recently, his name came up in a discussion I had with a lawyer. We both agreed that he is a broken man, even though he had been re-admitted to the bar. He walks around clutching a bible and looks gaunt and haggard.

I agree. The book indicates that he is not able to reconcile with the events of 20 years ago. I am aware that he is helpful to many that go to his office seeking advice but as he indicates in his book, he prefers civil matters.

It was the wife's shennigans, her resort adventure, throwing her weight that landed him in hot soup. With a wife like that you do not need any enemies.

This is a point I fail to understand. Why can't people just rebuild their lives and get on with it instead of sulking about events that occurred 2 decades ago, even if they feel that they may have been wronged? Some of the "Marxist conspirators" are doing the same thing, harping on events that happened 25 years ago.

On the other hand, TT Durai rebuilt his life after a short spell and is now having a thriving career.

To look back, and perhaps do a memoir on one's life may make sense if one is now in a position of strength. But if one is in a position of weakness, then harping on events that most people would rather forget, means one will never move forward with one's life but will be tied to the past.

That's nothing, The freakin' natives in New Zealand are harping on events that happened more than a century ago.

Its a common phenomenon amongst natives. You have it in the US, Canada, Oz, Japan etc. The coomon approach it seems is to allow them to wallow in the dreams and their rights by giving them land called protected zones or reservations while the rest of society progresses rapidly.

You get this from those who go into religion. It then dawns on them that the devil misled them. Clutching straws.

I waited for a month. Because of so many errors and significant omissions, people must have decided that he is either senile or in denial. He did not even contest the case, he pleaded guilty. People have lost their jobs in the private sector for pocketing the difference between a business class and economy class ticket without telling the company. This is all basic.

Thanks for correcting me on that. Perhaps a visual impression of the man - where he seems to have a dejected look - may not convey a correct view of what is going on with him. I guess if he is still practicising law then he continues to make a useful contribution.

I would have agreed with you until I read the book. He was an exceptional individual but this is far from the man that many know. Not many people are aware is that he topped his class, did his masters in Cambridge, attended classes at Harvard not just a gung-ho prosecutor shooting from the hips. He was a thinking man. He was also well respected his staff and those in law enforcement to be fair. And now this.

Datok,

I agree on what you have said. However, after his fall and suffered some time mentally for it (from hero to zero) , he has turned the corner now.

It is with no surprise his leanings to the bible unabately also help in his finding new purpose in life, but more significantly, also a humble someone close to him.

Now, its the wife who 'did it', it is another interesting angle, but the truth, GK will bring it to his grave, where he will have to reconcile it with his Maker!

I still could remember having to count the large amount of PAN EL shares scrips in the storeroom for stock taking; mind you those were worthless papers & the storeroom is under lock & key, and only certain senior people have access to that key. It to was quite amusing for me to be counting & keeping stocks of them. Anyway, I think I do not need to explain to you, why they can't just burn those shares scrips.

It was a learning experience for me at that time, free education; for during my very free time, I read through the court papers, Letters of demands, Private Investigators reports & so forth. From that I learn a lot from law jargon to Accounting terms...and learn how to 'cook' the books, too if I ever wanted... ha ha ha

Life is a learning experience..

Bro, I cannot help but suspect that his wife whitewashed the whole book except for the cases he handled.
