KUALA LUMPUR - Police believe that the current girlfriend of a teenager arrested on Thursday for allegedly torching Nurul Firzanah Mat Zaki, was also involved in the brutal attack.
City Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said police believed the teenage girl who was picked up with her boyfriend, who is the main suspect, had helped him torch Nurul Firzanah.
Also nabbed were four others, including three girls, who were occupants of the longhouse in Setapak Jaya, where the suspect was believed to be hiding since the Aug 13 incident.
Ku, however, said the four, aged 19 and 20, who also tested positive for drug abuse, were not involved in the torching incident.
Police seized clothes belonging to the suspect, which had petrol stains, and threatening text messages which he sent to the victim before the incident.
All six were arrested in a raid at the longhouse following a tip-off and will be remanded until Monday.
Nurul Firzanah, 16, was doused with petrol before she was set alight at a forest in Section 1, Wangsa Maju. She sought help from residents in nearby flats. She remains in a critical condition after suffering 30 per cent burns.
The victim and the suspect had been in a relationship for over a year but his jealous streak and abuse forced Nurul Firzanah to break it off with him.
The case is being investigated for attempted murder.
