A YOUNG girl’s joy trip to a supermarket in Kuala Terengganu turned into agony after she got her right hand trapped in the gaps of an escalator. However, swift response by the supermarket staff saved Raja Nur Natasha Ayuni Raja Mohd Samin.
The nine-year-old girl sustained only light injuries on her hand in the 8pm incident on Sunday. Berita Harian reported that the Year Three pupil from Kampung Teluk Ketapang had gone to the mall with her parents and an elder sister to shop for stationery and groceries.
She reached the first floor earlier then the rest and while waiting for the others to catch up, Nur Natasha played near the escalator steps. Suddenly, her hand got trapped between the rubber conveyor and the steps. Her loud screams drew the attention of the supermarket staff, who quickly ran to switch off the running escalator.
The young victim was rushed to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for treatment. The paper said the incident came two days after a small child went into a coma after falling off an escalator at the same supermarket. Muhammad Irsyad Syahmie Mohd Suhaimi, two, from Marang, regained consciousness at about 1pm on Monday.
