Girl behind own kidnapping, say police
SHAH ALAM: Four men nabbed for kidnapping a West Asian girl claim the 17-year-old alleged victim had masterminded her own abduction. Selangor acting CID chief Asst Comm Omar Mamah said yesterday the girl, who had befriended the four men in their 20s, had hatched a plan to extort money from her parents.
He said the girl had called her parents, who were in their home country when the July 30 incident took place, and asked for RM100,000, claiming that she had been kidnapped. The parents then negotiated with her alleged abductors and both parties agreed on a RM5,000 ransom.
After their arrest on Aug 7, the suspects admitted to having worked with the victim to obtain the money, ACP Omar said. He said the girl, who had been in Malaysia for almost two years, was here on a student visa while some of the suspects did not have valid documents.
