And if you're wondering why Maxwell hawker centre always has so many tourists.... the hawker stalls there are featured on both the Chinatown official website, and the Maxwell Food Centre's official website. I'm sure the tourist information brochures mention them too.

SINGAPORE - A 41-year-old man is slated to be charged with murder on Sept 8, after the death of a 48-year-old woman at Maxwell Food Centre, near Chinatown.
The police said in a statement on Sept 7 that the man was arrested at 1.36am on the same day at Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre after he informed officers there that he had stabbed a woman.
The police added that officers who were sent to a food centre in Kadayanallur Street found the woman lying there motionless. Maxwell Food Centre is located next to the road.
In response to queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at the food centre at 1.35am. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both parties knew each other.
One stall owner at the food centre said on Sept 7 that other stallholders had been discussing the woman’s death earlier in the day.
He said the woman and the suspect had worked together at a stall there in the past, but he had not heard of any disputes between them.
Lianhe Zaobao reported that the pair had worked together at Dao Xiang Ju, a stall that sells Chinese and Thai food.
The stall was shuttered when The Straits Times visited Maxwell Food Centre at about 3pm on Sept 7. There were several items placed neatly outside, including bottles of chilli sauce and water, several trays of eggs, and stools.
There were unwashed dishes in a bin outside as well.
The offence of murder carries the death penalty.
Police investigations are ongoing.

China Renaissance Holdings Ltd.’s shares fell as much as 73% after resuming trading in Hong Kong on Monday, 17 months after the stock was suspended following the detention of its former Chairman Bao Fan.
The company said it has fulfilled requirements for the trading resumption, releasing its earnings for the first half and for last year and 2022.
The company replaced Bao in February, a year after he vanished from the public eye due to an investigation by Chinese authorities. Shares of China Renaissance were down 63% as of 11:00 a.m., wiping out about HK$2.6 billion ($334 million) of its market value.
