GEORGE TOWN - Clerk Loh Kong Aik used to tell his family that he wanted to donate his organs to help others. His family fulfilled his wish after he was killed in a hit-and-run accident.
Loh's heart valves, corneas and bones were immediately harvested by doctors at the Penang Hospital.
Loh, 35, was killed in the accident in front of Chung Ling High School while on the way to his house in Bandar Baru Air Itam at 12.30pm on Friday.
In the accident, he had lost control of his motorcycle after being hit by an oil tanker from behind.
His motorcycle then collided head-on with a car.
Loh's sister said her brother was a devout Buddhist since young and was a very helpful person.
"Just before his death, he was telling us that he wanted to donate his organs to help others.
"He also said a human body is only temporary in this world and therefore, we should donate our bodies to others who are in need," she said at the Batu Gantong funeral parlour yesterday.
The funeral will be held today.
Loh will be cremated at the Batu Gantong crematorium and his ashes scattered in the sea.
