Giants Selling Cockroach Otah!

Yucks! There is a cockroach embedded in my otah

When STOMPer Ms. Chong wanted to have some ready-made otahs bought from the supermarket, she was disgusted to find a cockroach smashed and embedded in the otah.

In an email dated September 22, Ms. Chong says:

"Yucks! I bought a packet of ready-made otah from Giant and when I opened the packet up, I saw a smashed cockroach in the otah!

"Oh my god, it's so disgusting.

"I cant imagine if any more cockroaches have been ground and mixed in the meat!

"Please don't buy this!"

You need to get it clear. Giants is indeed selling the stuff supplied by the supplier. The supplier did not sell it to the customer. The onus is on Giant who will address the customer's concern with the supplier.

Giant and all supermarkets have a responsibility to ensure that QC occurs prior to procurement.

If you have been to Giants, their range is wide and includes cheap and stuff that many would not touch with a barge pole. Anyone going into Giant really needs to be extra cautious compared to other outlets.

Just look at their store setup - its is not as clean as other supermarkets. By the way, its run by Ang Mos and I bet you their missus won't step in there unless they are looking for 3rd world experience.

To their credit, they have much cheaper stuff than Cold Storage - just compare the salmon prices - same brand.

Eating Fish mixed with cockroach, will not poison and kill a normal meat eater because both are animal carcasses.

Meat eater should just be gracious and thankful to accept it as exotic bonus ingredient.

It was part of leaf wrapper found in otah, not cockroach: Manufacturer

The manufacturer of the otah-otah which was said to have contained an embedded cockroach says what was discovered was actually part of the leaf wrapper.

STOMPer Ms Chong had written in to STOMP earlier, saying that she found a smashed cockroach inside the ready-made otah she bought from a supermarket.

The manufacturer of the otah-otah said in its reply:

"We had found our otah-otah product in your wed side said being found a cockroach smashed and embedded inside.

"First of all, we would like to declare that we are a GMP & HACCP certified company.

"Our products are strictly produce under hygiene environment.

"We had Quality Assurance Department to ensure the quality of product before the product sold to market.

"From your wed picture,what we saw actually is part of the Otah Leaf (Fibrous root). NOT AS WHAT MENTIONED BY MS CHONG - COCKROACH SMASHED AND EMBEDDED IN THE OTAH.

"We already inform Gaint Singapore to contact Ms Chong for our immediate action to investigate.

"Hereby, we attach the picture of our raw Otah Leaf which show you the fibrous root of the leaf and our HACCP certificate."

This is the common cockroach. An average adult cockroach should be about twice the size of a standard portion of meat in a stick of otak. Noticed the barbed leg joints and the pair of thin, long and tapered antennae? And a squashed cockroach stinks to high heavens!

Now look at the Stomp picture. Can you see the parts of a crushed cockroach in your wildest imagination?

Somebody should sue for damages if the complainant can't produce the preserved evidence for testing!​
