Why are funds being wasted on such non-essential project like this "Speak Mandarin Campaign" during this difficult times. These money could have been better use on helping retrenched Singaporeans cope with financial hardship till they find a job. C'mon, this dumb campaign has been going on for 30 years now without any result to show for, so why keep wasting money on it. This govt really do not know where its priorities are.

Bang PR appointed to Speak Mandarin campaign

SINGAPORE - The Speak Mandarin Campaign 2009 has appointed TNBT's Bang as its sole PR partner for the 30th anniversary of the campaign in Singapore.

The Speak Mandarin Campaign was first launched in 1979 by then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, to encourage Singaporeans to speak Mandarin as a common language, instead of using dialects.

Since 1991, the campaign has shifted its objective to encourage English-educated Singaporeans to speak more Mandarin.

Jessie Ho, managing director of Bang PR Singapore, said: “The Speak Mandarin Campaign is one of Singapore’s most iconic and easily identifiable campaigns. It has touched, in one way or another, the lives of many Singaporeans over the last 30 years. We are very excited to be part of the Speak Mandarin Campaign and to play our role in this national effort.â€
