In the case of the so-called backyard murder of a 25-year-old in a parking lot in Salzgitter, the Braunschweig Regional Court has ruled in a second trial that the offender was guilty of a particularly serious offense.
This means that the 35-year-old perpetrator from Syria cannot apply for a suspension of the sentence after 15 years, a spokesman for the regional court said on Tuesday. The verdict is not yet legally binding. Accordingly, a revision can be made again.
Husband killed sister’s friend
The man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Braunschweig Regional Court in February 2020 after an extensive circumstantial trial for murder and violation of the gun law. According to the court, he killed his sister’s boyfriend because, as a Muslim, he would not tolerate his sister’s relationship with her Christian boyfriend. According to the verdict, the man waited more than an hour in the backyard for the victim in January 2019. When the 25-year-old got out of the car, the defendant fired shots from close range. The man died in the hospital from his gunshot wounds.
Federal Court of Justice demanded a new hearing
The Federal Court of Justice had confirmed the Braunschweig verdict on life imprisonment for murder, but demanded a new hearing when the particular severity of the offense was determined.
