Christmas, for me, is associated with the spirit of forgiveness, giving and thanksgiving.

We have just been given a report card of how we fared over an unprecedented, tumultuous 12 months since the onset of Covid-19 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (We are seeing light at the end of the tunnel: PM Lee, Dec 15).

Despite the setbacks and mistakes, our nation has rallied and today stands tall amid a global landscape that remains generally dismal.

I thank the officers who worked tirelessly to secure early access to the vaccines and made it possible for mass voluntary vaccination of our citizens and long-term residents free of charge. In total, no one can dispute that we have fared well.

We should not to let our guard down, and remain vigilant and disciplined as the battle against Covid-19 is far from over.

But equally, if not more important, with the spirit of Christmas very much alive, let us be thankful for the progress we have made. It adds to our social capital.

For those who have thrown brickbats when things were not looking good, it is time to honour and appreciate the many leaders, public officers and front-line workers who have toiled hard and risked their lives to keep Singapore safe.

The pandemic must not become a political football. Lives are at stake and we all desire to wish Singapore well.

As we move into phase three, do not be carried away by the celebratory mood, but think about what each of us can do for his fellow citizens, especially those suffering because of the pandemic during this Christmas season.

The Shitty Times Forum is filled with silly letters like this. From 'concerned citizens' to some random dunce with a title to his/her name.

It's actually more telling of the kind of people who work at SPH and get these letters published.

This was from 2016:

Writer Of The Week

Who: Georgie Lee Heng Fatt, 67, a stockbroker.

My family: Married to a former banker, with two adult children - a daughter, 33, who is a lawyer, and a son, 27, a product manager.

My home: A house in Bukit Timah.

My passions: I am passionate about living out my Christian faith in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world, and helping the next generation navigate through its maze. I am, therefore, actively engaged in mentoring the next generation.

I am also passionate about spending time and bonding with my family and encouraging others to do the same.

Last year's successful launch of a 300-page book, Unfolding His Story - co-authored by my son Galven and myself - marked a major milestone in our family's achievements. The book, which took four years of research and writing, chronicled a significant part of Singapore's church history over the past 50 years.

Today, I am still pursuing my passion for writing, first kindled in my previous career as a journalist.

I started writing to the Forum page...: In 2012. My first letter was my comment on the Prime Minister's National Day Rally speech concerning home, family and values.

What I write about: I write mainly about issues of values affecting our nation, especially family values, as I believe strong families make a strong nation.

Why I write: I am concerned about the future of Singapore and the next generation.

I read the Forum page because...: I believe it is important to understand what Singaporeans are concerned about, and their views.

My wish for Singapore: I hope Singaporeans, particularly the millennial generation, will not be swayed by the individualism and cynicism that are sweeping the world or jettison the good, timeless values that have underpinned Singapore's success as a nation.

I think the mother is more attractive if you are willing to overlook the sagginess and looseness in certain areas.

The daughter has inherited some ugly genes from her dad.

Yeah she looks like the type who enjoys choking during sex. I would choke her and pull her hair like a piglet
