Members of Parliament for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Sylvia Lim and Gerald Giam have expressed disappointment over the loss of three polling districts from Aljunied GRC to Tampines GRC, following changes to the electoral boundary before the upcoming General Election (GE).
Speaking to the media, Lim, who is also the Workers' Party (WP) chair, said that Aljunied MPs, especially Giam, have been consistently engaging with the residents in that area for the past years,
The Straits Times reported.

The three districts being transferred currently belong to the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol division and fall under Giam.
Lim said the town council
has also been working hard to address problems in the GreenGem estate, including rat infestation and waste management issues.
"It’s a pity that now they will no longer be under our charge and whatever work we have done, we’ll have to pass it on," Lim said.
"We always have to expect that the areas that we’re working on will be carved out"
Giam said that residents from the affected areas have contacted him to express their sadness about being transferred to another constituency.

He added that he would continue serving these residents until the end of his term as MP.
"After that, hopefully, whoever takes over will have a good slate to take over a good, well-maintained estate," Giam said.
Giam also said that WP is committed to do its best regardless of any challenges.
“In politics, especially in Singapore, we always have to expect that the areas that we’re working on will be carved out,” Giam added.
When asked if he will continue to represent Aljunied at the 2025 GE, he said his party would make that decision.

EBRC report
Lim and Giam's remarks on Mar. 12 came a day after the
release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee's (EBRC) report, which has been accepted by the government.
The EBRC published its report on Mar. 11, recommending 18 Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) and 15 Single Member Constituencies (SMCs).
Out of 15 SMCs, there are six newly formed SMCs —Bukit Gombak, Jalan Kayu, Jurong Central, Queenstown, Sembawang West and Tampines Changkat.

Yuhua, Bukit Batok, Hong Kah North, MacPherson and Punggol West SMCs have been absorbed into GRCs.
Out of 18 GRCs, there are five newly formed GRCs — Pasir Ris-Changi, Punggol, Jurong East-Bukit Batok, Marine Parade-Braddell Heights, and West Coast-Jurong West.
"Significant changes"
In
a statement regarding the EBRC report released on Mar. 11, WP said there were "significant changes to the areas where WP has been working consistently for the last few years".
According to the EBRC's report, the Committee recommended "regularising some of the electoral boundaries along key geographical features."

"Similarly, the Committee recommended moving polling districts in Tampines West, East of Bedok Reservoir, currently under Aljunied GRC to Tampines GRC," it said.
"WP will share more information with the public in due course on the likely constituencies we will contest and our potential candidates," WP said in its Facebook post.
