A dispute over the Gangnam Style dance phenomenon erupted into gunfire yesterday morning.
Pol Lt Col Santi Panyawong, a Khlong Ton police station inspector, said a group of men opened fire at a rival group on Bangkok's Ekamai Soi 30 about 8am yesterday.
Many cars and vehicles parked on the road were damaged but no one was injured, he said.
Police found 16 spent bullet shells - 11 carbine rifle shells and five 11mm pistol shells - at the scene.
Both groups are from the Rong Poon community in Bangkok's Makkasan district and are believed to know each other but earlier quarrelled in a pub, Pol Lt Col Santi said.
Wacharin Gowan, 27, one of the group who was shot at and whose car was damaged, told police that his group and the attackers, led by a man identified as Sonthaya, met in a pub on Petch Phraram Road in Makkasan and started arguing.
Both sides provoked each other with Gangnam Style dance moves. Mr Wacharin said this angered Mr Sonthaya's group.
Mr Wacharin said the pub closed, so his group moved to an open-air bar in Ekamai Soi 30 about 6am.
About two hours later, Mr Sonthaya and two others arrived on motorcycles and shot at them.
"We now know who all the attackers are," Pol Lt Col Santi said. "After questioning all the witnesses and inspecting the ammunition, we will seek arrest warrants for them."
Gangnam Style is a South Korean rap song by Psy. Its video and quirky dance routine has become a worldwide sensation.
