Gaming ring smashed in Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU: An illegal gambling syndicate was crippled following the arrest of four men in Jerteh. The syndicate, believed to have been active here for the past three months, was planning to expand to other areas due to brisk business as Terengganu prohibits the setting up of gaming outlets.
State acting CID chief Supt K. Manoharan said the four men, aged between 36 and 58, were detained at a house in Taman Teratur on Sunday. He said police also detained the mastermind, a 47-year-old man, while the others were runners.
Supt Manoharan said the raid came after a tip-off. He said police seized 23 lottery slips, a fax machine, calculator, stationery and RM7,973. “We are investigating whether the syndicate has connections in other districts,” he added.
