Gamblers run ‘fowl’ of the law
RAWANG: Police interrupted a cockfight at Rawang Country Homes near here and arrested 29 people.
Eight fighting cocks valued at about RM22,000 were also rescued.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said police received a tip-off that the illegal activity was taking place in the area with punters coming from as far away as Malacca and Pahang.
“A team of 21 policemen raided the area at 5pm as the punters were in the midst of a cock-fighting match,” he said.
Police arrested 26 men and three women including four Indonesians, all aged between 20 and 30.
Also seized was RM38,000 in cash, cellular phones and 13 spikes which are usually tied to the cocks’ feet so they can inflict wounds during a fight.
Investigations revealed the premise had only recently begun operations.
