Despite the grand wayang put up by the PAP regime and the state media to promote the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the majority of Singaporeans remain nonchalant about it with an increasing number of young Singaporeans venting their frustrations at the inconveniences caused by the YOG online.
The membership of the I hate YOG Facebook doubled in less than a week to more than 750 members, some of whom are NTU undergraduates who felt let down by NTU for giving priority to the YOG delegates at their expense.
One frustrated student Darren Tan Yi Wei wrote:
All of NTUs sports teams have been inconvenienced by the YOG. Weve been forced off campus facilities when Ive paid school fees ($6000+++) for this man. I mean, Im fine with the YOG, but why have NTUs own students been demoted to a class lower than 14-18 year olds that Singaporeans dont really care about?
A few hurled expletives at the YOG:
Fxxk you YOG. FxxK YOU. If this is for ALL of Singapore, where the hell do we citizens benefit from this? International fame and glory goes to the Country, so G-Men treats foreigners like angels by using OUR money and forever treating us like crap. WTF man.
There are also concerns about the shocking $389 million dollars splurged on the YOG so far which has exceeded three times its original budget.
Obviously oblivious to the public disquiet, PAP Minister Dr Vivian continues to plead with Singaporeans to rally around the YOG, prompting one netizen to remark sarcastically:
If you give me & my whole family an all-expenses paid round the world trip on chartered jet, stay at 6-star hotels, wine & dine at world-famous restaurants, eat caviar and lobster everyday, ride in stretched limousines yeah, I might be inclined to join you in the celebration. Heck Ill even volunteer to carry that damn torch and walk 3 steps behind you.
