I think they will follow SF in implementing a 'demand-responsive pricing' for parking! That means if they detect that more cars are coming into the carpark, they will up the hourly rate! This is a natural progression since they have already automated all the parking with cashcard.

San Francisco has been working on making parking "smarter" for quite a while now, and it's just recently taken another big step in that direction by starting to replace over 5,000 older parking meters with the snazzy new model pictured above. Those will not only let you pay with a credit or debit card (and soon a special SFMTA card), but automatically adjust parking rates based on supply and demand, which means you could pay anywhere from $0.25 to $6.00 an hour depending on how many free spaces there are. Those rates are determined with the aid of some sensors that keep a constant watch on parking spaces, which also means you'll be able to check for free spaces in an area on your phone or your computer before you even leave the house. Hit up the link below for the complete details, and to check if the neighborhoods you frequent are included in the initial rollout.

Maybe coming up next is restaurant with smart billing system. Your steak set dinner usually billed at $20 becomes billed at $50. You ask why? Oh, it's full house and there's a queue more thann 10 people outside. If you don't pay up and leave now, it may increase to much more based on the time and space you're depriving people in the queue. Then next day you come again, seating half full, no queue. When you're done and called for the bill, it's $18. We're glad to offer you a 10% discount since there's no full house and no queue in waiting.

hourly parking?

I suspect the rather car owners do not tear the coupons or overtime. They earn more through fines than all car owners keeping to the timing.

2 major source of income. 1 the car @ ICA but recently changing to hourly parking.
2. Wheelock public car park.

If you just stand at the car park at about 4.45pm at both places, at that time a mini van will come in and then unload 4-6 parking wardens to issue tickets. It was so systematic and well rehearsed that they issue all the tickets within that 15 minutes block then up the van and go. Macam like a commando strike and go!

Why this time slot? because most office workers knock off @ 5pm and most of them would have expired their tickets.

So in long run hourly parking machines for all HDB or URA car park? - good for car owners, no good for their revenue. So I wonders.....
