fun to watch: Nokia started biting back @ Apple - in court

Some thing I learned from business: when a business is fully capable of fighting competitor via business in the market, it would not border to waste time & money in court. It is when your option run out in your regular playing field, then you will try to take on your threatening competitor outside the regular playing field.

e.g. if you already can put competition out of business within 12 months will you still border to sue them? If they had already offered to sell you their business at reasonable price, will you still border to take them to court? You will only sue if they owed you lots of money and can not pay, then you needed court order to wind them down or take over in most hostile way.

It is the same in politics. e.g. Lee Kuan Yew & PAP sues because they had been defeated helplessly in the political playing field. They had no competence nor confidence to fight their threatening competitors politically that's why they got outside of political playing field to sue via a kangaroo court.

It is the same in boxing. e.g. if you could KO your competitor within next few mins inside the ring, why will you still go & clash with him outside the ring? Only when you lost by playing according to the rules and you are unhappy you will trying to take revenge outside the ring, free from the rules. ;):D

Mobile phone giant Nokia sues Apple over patents
AFP
AFP - Friday, October 23

HELSINKI (AFP) - – Nokia, the world's biggest mobile phone maker, took on the iconic iPhone on Thursday by suing US rival Apple for infringing 10 Nokia patents on mobile phone technology.

"The patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007," Nokia said in a statement.

Nokia said it had filed the complaint against Apple on Thursday with the Federal District Court in Delaware in the United States.

"By refusing to agree appropriate terms for Nokia's intellectual property, Apple is attempting to get a free ride on the back of Nokia's innovation," Ilkka Rahnasto, deputy head of Nokia's legal department, said in the statement.

The company stressed that it had spent 40 billion euros (60 billion dollars) in research and development over the past two decades.

"The ten patents in suit relate to technologies fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA) and wireless LAN standards," Nokia said.

Nokia earlier this month posted its first quarterly loss in a decade amid falling sales. Analysts said the poor results were partly due to the growing popularity of Apple's iPhone and RIM's Blackberry over Nokia models.

Nokia is taking a page from a certain senile old man, if you can't silence them sue them.

Maybe he'll sue Nokia for stealing his idea :)

Wow it took them 2 man long years to take action. They sure were concerned about their patents.
