He was on the run for nine years after a polytechnic student was murdered in Lucky Chinatown in 2003.
In his absence, two of Larry Lim Liang Long's alleged accomplices were dealt with on a reduced charge of manslaughter of Mr Wong Dao Jing, 18, at a staircase landing in the New Bridge Road mall on Feb 15, 2003.
Lim, 32, surrendered to the police last month and was charged with murder, but in an unexpected turn of events on Wednesday, was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.

TEEN'S DEATH CAUSED MUM'S SUICIDE
Mr Wong Dao Jing, 18, was bashed to death at a staircase landing in Lucky Chinatown mall on Feb 15, 2003, after one of his attackers accused him of stealing his haversack.
Mr Wong's mother S.F. Lee put up a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of his attackers. She took her own life in June 2007.
It turned out that he was not involved in the murder, despite telling the police that he was.
