Don't waste money on soccer TV demand

I REFER to the passionate letters from soccer fans grieving at the thought of not being able to see live telecasts of the World Cup because no one is prepared to pay the $100 million demanded by Fifa. As if the reported $400 million spent by SingTel on the rights to telecast English Premier League matches was not enough for one year.

Some of that money could be spent helping poor Singaporeans, instead of splurging it on viewing a soccer competition in which we are not even participating.

Quite right. $100 million in just one month of kicking balls - and what do we gain - other than contributing to Singapore Pools? I think the game is more for gamblers. Do we want to subsidise gamblers?

Smart Singaporeans will think of ways to get to watch their matches.

I use to be a world cup enthusiast but not any more. $100 million for one month to watch some twenty pathetic adults chasing after a ball, it's just been foolish.

That $100 million certainly will help thousands and thousands of those hungry souls who dont even know when their next meal will be.

But the $100 million will be multiplied 1,000 times in revenue by SIN pools & Internal Revenue..which will generate GST of 7% to help the POOR in SINkingpore...oh! Dennis!

It is all money, more money, and even more MONEY!:D if DD is reading this..he should know better...for he was involved in money & making more money...:D

tourism would also be affected during the world cup period. It would be quite amusing to see angmohs wailing in their 5-star hotels when they realise no world cup. hiak hiak

If $50,000 can help Haiti, Can you imagine what would $100 millions do for poor Singaporean.
Singtel is going to loose money for $400 millions on EPL. Unless they can get all the Starhub subscribers over. Sorry, I am one of them will not support Singtel, I will go to coffeshop to watch.

We will rather spend 100 m to make life miserable for other Singaporeans !
